I wasn't thinking of 3DVIA Shape particularly. I was thinking in general about a number of different technologies that DS sells under the 3DVIA moniker. (For example, Seemage.)

The Wikipedia SaaS definition is good, as far as it goes, but it treats an application as being monolithic.

Seems to me that an ideal SaaS CAD app would be anything but monolithic. I'm thinking it would at least be SOA (service oriented architecture), which DS has quite a bit of experience with. Probably run on a cloud (like Amazon EC2), with dynamic provisioning, and, at a minimum, OS-level virtualization. I'd expect it to be a Rich Internet Application, most likely using Silverlight on the client side, given that's what BluePrint Now uses.

Actually, now that I think about it, I wouldn't be surprised to see a SaaS CAD application from SolidWorks run on Microsoft's Azure Services Platform.

But, I'm just talking off the top of my head here. I've got no inside information.
