"When analysts are knowledgeable and provide insight and understanding, regardless of their ultimate opinion, they are providinga valuable service. When they’re pontificating about things they know little about, well then …"

Does this thinking or yours, Mr. Bass, extend to include customers who try to raise issues surrounding licencing and software use problems - and are customers. Is their disagreement or application problem also pontifications about something they know little about?

Anonymous, Analystfreelance,

I don't think Carl (or for that matter, any other CAD vendor) has issues with all analysts. In an open society, not only does the press/analyst community have a job to lay out the facts and express independent opinion, but it is also their responsibility to do so. I doubt any company is naive enough to think that every member of the press/analyst community is going to sing their praises all the time.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in criticizing a company's products. I do that all the time on this blog. However, when the criticism begin so move away from constructive to destructive, that is when we need to start thinking.

I completely agree with Analyst John. All analysts are not the same.

Get it. Carl has issues with analysts. He is not be blamed.

Yet "I think it would be unfair to tar all analysts with the same brush" - Agree with it. I have issues with people like Carl who choose to associate and argue with Analyst's that just want to prove that they know it all. He will get what he asked for,
You got to separate the rotten apple(s) (smells stronger) from the better ones or else you will see a rotten batch/lot.

I think it would be unfair to tar all analysts with the same brush. There are a handful who write irresponsibly or with their own agendas in mind. But the vast majority do take the time and effort to collect data and then use their experience to objectively analyze it and draw unbiased conclusions.

Carl Bass - When a customer designs a new concentrating solar collector, a breakthrough medical device, the world’s largest telescope, the coolest cell phone or one of the millions of everyday items designed with our software, should we look to CAD industry “analysts” to categorize the importance of the task?

The quote-unquote around the word "analysts" says a lot of what people like Carl think about these dinosaurs. They badly need to analyze themselves first before analyzing things they do not know the first thing about.
